Composite Research Sea Born LX22-CC

Composite Research makes Sundance, Sea Born and Spyder, proven lines of top quality, affordable, versatile fishing boats at home inshore, on the flats and even offshore.

They share desirable family traits: biaxial glass and nonlinear PVC foam cores for long life, light weight and great performance. Aluminum plates at pressure and load points add strength with minimal added weight.

In boats of 20 feet and less, foam injected into steel stringer molds expands, creating extreme pressure to reach maximum density in a grid glassed in to create a rigid hull. Bigger boats are built with foam-injected fiberglass stringers. The tough hulls are backed by a 10-year transferable warranty.

Introduced in 2008 as a series of full-featured bay boats, Sea Born now includes center-consoles (one featured below, two to follow, the company says) and even an offshore boat. Most feature a single- or double-stepped hull for better performance and fuel economy. Many also boast powder-coated outboard set-back brackets for bigger-boat performance and additional cockpit space.

The success of new models and increased overall sales have led Composite Research to add 30,000 square feet of production facilities, plus new equipment and more craftspeople. They’re ready to build your next boat.

Sea Born LX22-CC

Fishing and family fun are not mutually exclusive, and Sea Born proves it afresh with its LX22-CC, the newest addition to the brand’s lineup.

This versatile center-console, at home on both inshore and offshore waters, promises to please both the serious angler and his or her family. Its higher freeboard and level floor help take some of the unease out of rougher seas.

Seaworthy, yes, and comfortable too. Passengers pick from forward lounge seating with removable backrests, a console front seat atop storage, and a flip-down rear bench. The captain works from a large, display-friendly console. This Sea Born’s space-thrifty layout helps it fish bigger than its specs suggest. Credit some of that to abundant out-of-the-way rod and gear storage.

For family-style fun, there’s a walk-through transom door and swim platform with ladder, and the console houses a convenient compartment for a head. It comes with Bluetooth-ready marine stereo and four Maine outdoor speakers.

But this is primarily a fishing boat, and a 62-quart aerated livewell with high-speed pickup will keep your catch alive or tend bait that will help catch fish to fill the 200-quart insulated aft fish box. Fish and baitwells are foam-insulated, ready to aid and house the success of the serious angler or the family-fun fisher.
