2016 Fishing Boat Buyers Guide: Yellowfin 24 Bay CE

Bay or bigger water? You don’t necessarily need to make a choice. Yellowfin proves that with its 24 Bay CE.

The original 24 Bay was built for taming those shallow waters. Now comes the 24 Bay CE (Carbon Elite), even lighter, stronger and faster. Carbon-weave fabric developed for aviation makes the CE 20 percent lighter, and about the same amount stronger, than the original. You get shallower draft, stingier fuel sipping and faster travel.

That’s bay-friendly. But when the action moves out of the bay to nearshore, or even sometimes offshore, don’t be surprised to see — or find yourself in — a 24 Bay CE there. An easy 5-inch forward step welcomes you to the front casting deck, and beneath it lurks a 290-quart fish box. The console is 5 inches shorter, front to back, for more fishing and seating space, but its dash still welcomes a pair of 12-inch displays. Racks stand ready for 10 rods; a pair of lockers holds more. Aft is a bench seat big enough for three, and a pair of livewells total 150 gallons of bait-keeping space.

The 24 Bay CE is more than ready for nearshore and the odd offshore run, but its heart remains in the skinny water. Proof? An 8-foot Power-Pole anchoring system and a hydraulic jack plate, standard.
